Held since 2005, the Istanbul Cup is a Tier III tournament on the WTA Tour. The first tournament attracted worldwide attention when tournament champion Venus Williams played an intercontinental match with Turkish tennis player Ipek Senoglu on the Bosphorus Bridge, making it the first tennis match ever played between two continents. This year over 50 tennis players will compete in the Istanbul Cup and the attendance of 4 out of the world’s 20 best women’s tennis players is expected.
